Located in the Caribbean Sea, Haiti occupies the western part of the island called by the Indians Quisqueya boyo i.e. mountainous country , then St Domingue by French and Haiti after independence January 1,1804 . The Mole St Nicolas and his rural Sections. The commune of the Mole St Nicolas, city of discovered is in the extreme west of the north of Haiti and gathers three rural sections: Cotes de Fer (1ere), Mare Rouge (2e) and Damé (3e). After Christophe Colomb, the habitants of Mole in the beginning were driven out arcadiens of Canada and Germans. Discouraged by the dryness of the place, the Acadian ones left for Louisiana (the USA) and the Germans for Bombardopolis, commune adjacent of the Mole. At the time of the fight for independence, the English who tried to occupy Saint-Domingue settled two years in Môle Saint Nicolas. Mole is made up of a population for half resulting from the unions of the black slaves and the white colonists. The population is known in the far west for their hospitality, their knowledge to make and smartness, their kindness .The natural beauty of the areas, the white sand beaches , the broad bay, the careenage, bathed by a clear and bluish sea, the exotic and luxuriant panorama, the streets traced with the chalk line and the colonial vestiges present real tourist potentialities. Unfortunately They are not currently made profitable. It is the department more neglected by all the governments since independence. The Mole St Nicolas population is estimated at approximately 150.000 inhabitants of which only 4.000 live in the center of the Mole, all the remainder is found in the three communal sections. The economic life puts back on fishing "an empirical fishing to 60 %, 15 % of goats and 25 % of agriculture" and the charcoal trade. Agriculture is practised especially in the rural sections: Damé, Cotes de Fer and Mare Rouge .
